Boot was a London based painter and illustrator of landscape subjects; he painted in Derbyshire, Surrey, and Devon. He also travelled in Germany, France and North Africa.
He was a member of the Royal Society of British Artists and was elected to the seven man in council in 1889. He also exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1874-1903
